Son. Musician. Mentor. Teacher.

Justin “Info Gates” Gillespie loved music and loved teaching. He was a talented composer, performer, and producer in the Kansas City hip-hop/rap scene and worked with performers across the country. He was a dedicated musical artist who loved Kansas City and chose to stay in this area to work with fellow musicians and help build the quality and reputation of Kansas City area talent.

truly dedicated
to HIS music

In 2015, Justin founded the Beat Academy of Kansas City, a program designed to gain confidence and skills by expressing themselves through their own original music. It quickly became apparent that during this process, his students developed self-esteem and commitment to doing their best work which carried over to their other classes. His ability to relate to his students, help them with challenges and mentor them with their musical and personal endeavors was unmatched. Justin lives on in the lives of those he touched with his music, his friendship, and his kindness. He changed people for the better because he cared.

uplifting people in whatever way possible

Justin discovered that his purpose in life was to become a teacher. He spent the last three years of his life fulfilling this purpose. He loved teaching and his passion for their growth and pride in their successes was similar to a proud father watching his children grow and rise to the level of their individual abilities to create and perform high quality music. His impact was far greater than can even be expressed in words. The tributes from his fellow musicians, the words of remembrance from his students, and the touching tribute recording put together by Karen Flattery, Justin’s Mama, paint the picture of a man who will live on forever in music and memory.
